Our Origins

The founder of Zen Capital Management first developed an interest in market cycles through studying the pioneering work of the late Ian S Notley. Notley developed his approach over 40 years and his system is currently utilised by over 150 institutional investment managers in 14 countries around the world.
Notley’s work was truly revolutionary and influenced a great many investment managers. After the “tech wreck” of 2000, one of George Soros‘ four personal fund managers professes to have “dodged the bullet of over-enthusiastic technology investing” as a direct result of adopting Notley’s approach.
Almost two decades ago Zen Capital Management’s founder began studying Notley’s approach. Over a period of many years and thousands of hours research, our founder developed his own cyclic analysis system and incorporated a comprehensive risk and portfolio management framework. Thus Zen Capital Management’s systems are comprehensive, unique and proprietary.
Whilst at Citigroup through the Credit Crisis of 2008, our founder used his system to deliver positive returns for his investment clients. His continued to successfully apply his approach through roles at Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs JB Were. Thus the system has been tested under the most difficult of conditions. However, market conditions are always changing and past performance is no indication of future performance.
